The Norristown Municipal Waste Authority WWTP is a 9.75 million gallon per day (MGD) wastewater treatment plant that serves Norristown and West Norriton Township. The upgrade included an evaluation for nutrient removal, replacement of existing blowers and fine bubble diffusers with the addition of mixers and instruments to provide anoxic zone in each of the seven (7) existing aeration basins; replacement of existing belt filter press; replacement of existing influent pump station; and general campus improvements. The Project also included the pilot testing of the Nuvoda MOB process in one of the Authority’s aeration tanks. The goal of the pilot was to identify if the process improved settling in the final clarifiers, provided additional hydraulic capacity by reducing the hydraulic retention time, and provided for some denitrification. This is the first Nuvoda MOB pilot study in Pennsylvania. The total Project cost is $9.5MM.
