Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) provided civil engineering services for a 70,000 square-foot, two-story building at Lancaster General Health’s Suburban Outpatient Pavilion. This facility provides a holistic approach to cancer treatment by combining multiple support services with the full suite of medical specialties under one roof in order to treat not just the patient’s body, but also his or her spirit.
As part of this approach, HRG worked closely with the project’s landscape architect to create an aesthetically pleasing, therapeutic garden, which provides a quiet place to reflect and recharge for those facing the challenges of cancer treatment. Native plantings, bio-swales, and rain gardens were designed and installed to infiltrate stormwater runoff. A large cistern was also installed to collect irrigation of the healing garden.
HRG’s comprehensive services on this project included:
-
- Land development and civil engineering
- “Green” stormwater management design and approvals
- Surveying
- Traffic engineering
- Environmental and regulatory compliance
The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute is just one in a long line of projects HRG has completed in partnership with Lancaster General Health. Over the years, we have assisted them with re-zoning and municipal approvals, land development and site design, stormwater management, environmental and traffic impact studies, roadway and intersection design, and traffic signalization. We have coordinated on their behalf with multiple utilities, architects, developers and regulatory agencies to obtain fast approvals and keep their projects on schedule. Previous projects we have completed for Lancaster General Health include the Health Pavilion, Women & Babies Hospital, Day Care Center, Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Ambulatory Surgery Center.
