Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s Youth Development Park – Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA

Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc.’s (HRG) professional team was responsible for the site planning, design and regulatory agency approvals for a little league baseball facility on behalf of The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. HRG worked closely with the Foundation and HGOR Consultants to incorporate the design elements and standards of the baseball field and related improvements. The Foundation’s mission statement is to help build character and teach critical life lessons to disadvantaged young people residing in America’s most distressed communities through baseball and softball themed programs.

The project site is within the existing Boys and Girls Club of Central Pennsylvania, Inc. property located at 1227 Berryhill Street in the City of Harrisburg. The baseball field and related improvements project is a modification and rehabilitation of the existing baseball field facility.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held October 11, 2012 and the new park was constructed within 6 months and opened with a high-profile celebration on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

The youth development park is the catalyst that brought attention to the Club’s limitless potential to meet the growing needs of the children it serves. The community’s generous outpouring of support and resources has been instrumental in the continued expansion of the facilities, which is resulting in a large increase in membership, volunteers, and available program offerings.
