Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG), as part of a team approach with MKSD Architects, played an instrumental role in this unique initiative to design and develop a brand new satellite campus of Northampton Community College. The new campus achieved LEED Gold Certification and had construction costs of over $50 million.
The campus, located on 72 acres in Pocono Township, serves 5,000 students and the Greater Poconos region. The campus design is based upon sustainable design principles, including minimal site disturbance, natural daylighting, local material utilization, and alternative means for heating and cooling the buildings, as well as other sustainable design strategies. HRG performed the initial Feasibility Study for the site and obtained a Conditional Use approval for the project, a Regional Impact Development. HRG provided environmental and site engineering services including environmental site assessments, wetland studies, survey, grading, drainage, stormwater management, NPDES permitting, traffic and transportation engineering, and erosion control. Special site features included porous pavement, solar arrays, native vegetation, and an extensive stormwater detention/infiltration system.
