Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) was a member of the design/build team for the Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, PA. The 5,700 seat stadium was constructed on a tract comprised of a portion of an old railroad yard, an industrial property, and commercial properties.
HRG’s role included concept planning to evaluate alternatives for best utilization of the site, as well as participation in a multi-disciplined team, in conjunction with the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Lancaster, to optimize the design. To expedite the project, HRG has worked closely with the City’s Departments of Planning, Engineering, and Water/Wastewater, as well as the Lancaster County Planning Commission. HRG professionals also made presentations at public meetings to the City Zoning Board, City Planning Commission and Neighborhood Residents.
HRG provided services related to the preparation of land development plans, stormwater management, site design, surveying, roadway design, and traffic issues. HRG also completed construction drawings and assisted in the construction phase of this high-profile project.
The stadium opened in May of 2005 and has proven to be an asset to the revitalization of this area of the city. Reinforcing the importance of this project to the community, Clipper Magazine Stadium received a Special Recognition Award in the Sustainable Growth Category at the Envision Leadership Awards presentation, sponsored by the Lancaster County Planning Commission, in December 2008.
“The contributions of the HRG team were invaluable to the success of this high-profile project. They embraced the concept that this initiative was a means to continue the revitalization efforts underway in the City of Lancaster and, therefore, worked diligently to prepare plans that provided a strong foundation for future growth in the northwest neighborhoods of the City. The final result of this collaborative effort is a first-class facility that integrates well into the community and enhances the City of Lancaster as a place where exciting things are happening.” – Randy S. Patterson, Former Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Lancaster.
