Duke Street Bridge Replacement Project – Hummelstown Borough & South Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA
HRG designed a replacement for the existing Duke Street Bridge. This 106-year-old structure carried North Duke Street (T-690) over Swatara Creek to intersect with South Hoernerstown Road (SR 2003).
Specific improvements included:
- Adding a new 5-foot sidewalk on the west (downstream) side of the bridge to provide safe mobility for pedestrian traffic while meeting ADA requirements.
- Shifting the North Duke Street alignment to improve clear distance at the United Water Building and meet existing standards.
- Widening the North Duke Street / South Hoernerstown Road intersection to allow for improved turning movements.
- Installing a boat launch adjacent to the trailhead for the United Water Trail.
