Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) partnered with East Stroudsburg University (ESU), East Stroudsburg Little League, East Stroudsburg’s Foundation, and Stroud Township to develop the new NCAA regulation turf softball and baseball fields at Creekview Park, called ESU ESSA & Hughes Field Complex. HRG’s professional team was responsible for the site planning, design, and regulatory agency approvals for the development across 4.5 acres in Stroud Township. The fields were built by All Sports.
The design team had to overcome several obstacles around stormwater management and floodplain permitting. Turf fields are built on a compacted surface classified as a gravel covering, requiring runoff to be managed through the addition of a low head, above-ground detention basin and underground storage around the perimeter of the fields. Also, the fields are located along the edge of the floodplain, requiring additional analysis and permitting.
