Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) served as the design engineer for this design-build project to construct streetscape improvements in the City of Easton, Northampton County, PA.
Easton officials wanted to create a gateway into the city at the intersection of Larry Holmes Drive and South Third Street and improve the appearance of these corridors as well as that of Washington Avenue. They also sought to calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety.
To meet these goals, HRG designed new curbing, sidewalk and landscaping; designated parking areas; decorative street lighting; and drainage facilities. We also designed new traffic signals at the intersections of South Third Street and Larry Holmes Drive, South Delaware Drive, and Ferry Street. In addition, we redesigned the intersection of Larry Holmes Drive and South Third Street to be narrower with new landscaping and tree plantings as well as a gateway sign to create a welcoming focal point and sense of arrival to the City of Easton.
Sidewalk bulbouts with landscaping and inlaid stamped pavement cross walks helped to improve pedestrian safety while achieving an aesthetically pleasing look.
