Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) was retained by Slippery Rock Municipal Authority (SRMA) to assist the Authority with major water distribution and treatment system improvements. Due to aging infrastructure and a diminishing well field, SRMA began looking for a new aquifer and treatment options. During the planning process, HRG assisted SRMA with feasibility studies, well testing and design of a new transmission main for the new water treatment facility. With the help of HRG, the Authority chose to develop a new well at the Hines Road site, build a new treatment facility and upgrade their existing plant after the new facility was operational.
HRG was contracted by SRMA to provide planning, design, permitting, bidding and construction phase services related to the water treatment plant and distribution system improvements. HRG also assisted SRMA with the preparation of a Private Bond application to obtain funding for the project.
SRMA was awarded a $7,312,000 low-interest loan for the construction of improvements to the water treatment system. HRG designed improvements including a new 1.15 MGD water treatment plant utilizing a new aeration, oxidation and green sand filtration system, a new reverse osmosis membrane system, a new gas chlorination system, and new chemical feed systems.
The facility went into operation in 2013.
