North Boundary Road Roundabout

This project improved traffic control at the intersection of North Boundary and Marshall Roads while balancing pedestrian connectivity with vehicular capacity needs. Project designs included a single lane roundabout with a truck apron that accommodates large tractor trailers as well as pedestrian accommodations on three legs of the intersection.

The roundabout design raised the elevation of the roadways by as much as four feet to minimize utility relocation and prevent conflict between the stormwater conveyance facilities and the existing water and gas line. To satisfy the NPDES permit, check dams were installed in the roadside ditches to detain runoff and to minimize thermal impacts and water quality before discharging to the receiving waters. A rain garden was also constructed inside the center of the roundabout.

A temporary road and a detailed maintenance of traffic plan was developed to keep the road operational and to allow traffic to flow freely during construction.
