Schaeffer Elementary School serves approximately 375 grade school students in the Manheim Township School District. As a subconsultant to the architectural firm of Reese, Lower, Patrick & Scott; Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) performed the necessary site design and civil engineering services for this school expansion project.
Schaeffer Elementary is an environmental science signature school, and emphasizes environmental learning through use of their eco-pond as an outdoor classroom. The collaborative efforts of the Manheim Township School District; Reese, Lower, Patrick & Scott; and HRG ensured that the District’s requirements were addressed and resulted in a successful project.
HRG’s professional staff utilized their expertise to perform the following tasks for this expansion project:
- Identified zoning issues and prepared the application for the zoning hearing board
- Stormwater management design concepts and calculations
- Stormwater management plan
- Land development plans
- Layout and grading plans
- Erosion and sedimentation control plans
A major renovation of the existing school structure, a 15,000 square foot addition, and a complete update of the site layout to provide better access for students, parents, and teachers formed the core of this project to bring this school into the 21st century.
