Letort Interceptor Rehabilitation
In 2019, Carlisle Borough completed an $8.2 million rehabilitation interceptor project. The rehabilitation of the interceptor was a vital project due to the location of the interceptor. Failing infrastructure in this area would have resulted in sewage contamination in the Letort Spring Run. The condition of the pipe was identified through the use of MSI data to analyze the corrosion within the internal RCP pipe wall.
The interceptor project consisted of over 20,000 feet of 42-inch diameter concrete pipe, 1,500 feet of 24-inch diameter pipe, and 2,000 feet of 18-inch diameter pipe. During the investigation of the interceptor, it was estimated that 45% of the 42-inch RCP and 18-inch VCP needed immediate repair, and the remaining pipes would need to be repaired within 5 years. HRG was successful in meeting challenging bypass pumping requirements of 15 MGD, testing before the operation, and crossing multiple streams, driveways, and the PA Turnpike and US RT 11.
