We provided design and construction phase services for the replacement of a critical bridge within the County’s transportation network. The structure carries nearly 10,000 vehicles per day, which is the highest traffic count of all 28 county-owned bridges. The project involved a full replacement to allow for significant safety improvements. The improvements include widening the vehicular travel lanes, an ADA compliant and barrier protected sidewalk, providing a long-term non-load restricted crossing, and improving emergency response time to residential neighborhoods and hospitals. Innovative techniques used for this project include maintaining traffic flow on the existing bridge while constructing the new bridge, use of Tybot – a rebar-tying robot to expedite work to place and secure more than 40,000 rebar ties, and a more complicated design using linear concrete beams to reduce maintenance and prevent deterioration. The success of this project positions the community for future growth.
